About Bishop Street Ballet

Bishop Street Ballet is a Dallas-based nonprofit professional ballet company founded by dancer and choreographer Madilyn Hill. We create original productions that bring classical ballet together with film, live music, and theatrical storytelling.

Our performances draw on familiar stories and unexpected ideas, giving longtime ballet audiences and first-time viewers something to connect with. Whether we’re bringing a movie’s characters to life at the historic Texas Theatre or collaborating with musicians on a new production, we approach each performance with serious attention to the dancing—and room for humor, imagination, and surprise.

Our story

Bishop Street Ballet grew from a desire to make ballet a more active part of Dallas’s cultural life. Our work includes original film preshows inspired by The Wizard of Oz, Interview with the Vampire, Edward Scissorhands, and Shrek, alongside The Nightmare Before Nutcracker, our holiday production featuring live music by The Invincible Czars.

Through these performances, we bring dancers, musicians, and local venues together to create occasions people can enjoy with friends, return to each season, and make their own traditions around.

Our mission

To keep ballet alive and growing through original performances, artistic collaboration, and storytelling that makes it relevant, entertaining, and welcoming to audiences today.

Our vision

A Dallas where going to the ballet is a familiar part of going out—something people look forward to, bring their friends to, and want to experience again.

What guides our work

Classical training, imaginative productions.
Ballet technique is the foundation of our work. We use it to build characters, tell stories, and create performances with their own distinct personality.

A welcoming audience experience.
You don’t need to know ballet terminology or have seen a performance before. We want people to feel comfortable coming in curious.

Collaboration rooted in Dallas.
We work with musicians, artists, and local venues to connect ballet with the city’s broader creative community.

Respect for the artists.
Our productions depend on the skill, time, and commitment of the people who make them. We value clear communication, thoughtful rehearsal, and an environment where artists can contribute creatively.
